Expert: More people are taking in lodgers during the recession
Those looking at property for sale in Axminster may find that if they
are struggling to keep up with mortgage payments or have a spare
room they have no use for, getting a lodger is the perfect
solution.
Jonathan Moore, UK country manager at EasyRoommate.co.uk, explained
that as a result of the economic downturn, many homeowners are
having to tighten their purse strings and look for ways to save
money.
Because of this, they are looking into the idea of getting a
lodger, especially in larger cities such as London where it is much
cheaper for people to share than rent or own a home on their
own.
"The other reason is people can't get on the housing ladder and
rents are tending to go up, so a lot more younger people are
looking at house shares," Mr Moore continued.
In August, Abbey Mortgages revealed that 16 million homeowners in
the UK have at least one spare room.
